Diageo Reserve Brands is urging bartenders to submit their entries for the summer round of the 2012 World Class Australia competition on or before Sunday, October 16.

The summer round is one of two heats that will be held as part of the 2012 competition, and bartenders can enter one of three sub-categories: Summer Cocktail, Punch or Gentleman’s Cocktail.

“The 2012 World Class Australia competition kicks off with the Summer drinks round, with entries for the round closing this Sunday at midnight, so anyone that wants to be involved has his weekend to get their entry in,” Diageo Reserve Brands NSW brand ambassador, Robb Sloan, says.

To enter bartenders need to head to the World Class Australia Facebook page and following the guidelines, submit their cocktail recipe and an image of their drink. For the first time in the competition’s history voting consumers will be asked to vote on the drinks, which will occur through Facebook.

“All entries will be done through Facebook, and the consumer voting will commence next week so bartenders need to make sure their drinks are visible in their venue,” Sloan explained.

The consumer voting begins on October 18 and runs till December 31, and bartenders are encouraged to promote their entry to friends, family and fans in that period to drive votes.

Consumer votes will make up part of the final score, with the rest of the points coming from a Reserve Brand Ambassador judging the entries through an unannounced visit to the competitor’s venue.

Three finalists for each subcategory will be chosen to compete in the semi finals that will be held in Sydney on the week commencing January 16.

The semi finals will be open to consumers who will be invited to attend and try all the drinks and vote on their favourite.
