Scotch whisky producer Glen Moray has celebrated its 120th birthday by creating a limited edition whisky called Mastery, with just 1000 bottles available globally.

Mastery was created by current Master Distiller, Graham Coull, who told TheShout that the whisky celebrates the distillery’s craftmanship and its history.

“It has been a great privilege to create Mastery which is a unique blend of different aged Glen Moray’s and includes vintages from four different decades,” Coull told TheShout.

“Mastery for me celebrates not only the traditions and skilled craftsmanship at Glen Moray but also the long history of innovation with wine casks from different sources.

“It was great to discover how much the Glen Moray maturing in Madeira casks had developed over the years. The additional years maturing in Madeira wood has created a whisky with an incredible richness and depth of flavour.”

Coull added that the release of Mastery is incredibly timely given the substantial growth of whisky consumption in Australia, and around the world.

“The single malt category as a whole is doing brilliantly well. According to the Scotch Whisky Association, Australia is now the ninth largest market proving that consumers here are much more adventurous now than ever before. The world has become a smaller place, and whiskies from all over the globe are now accessible which means an exciting time for innovative new whiskies like Mastery.”

Coull also told TheShout that the Glen Moray range in Australia will soon be expanding.

“The Glen Moray Elgin Classic Sherry Finish and the Glen Moray Heritage 15-year-old will be available soon,” he said. “Future expressions could also include the Glen Moray Elgin Classic Peated and the Glen Moray Heritage 18-year-old.”

Eight bottles of Mastery will be available in Australia, presented in individually numbered decanters housed in a leather box and with a $1400 RRP.
